The Festival will again provide audiences with an opportunity to see major Irish theatrical works in development before they reach full production on the stage – possibly in future Festival programmes. Presented by some of Ireland's leading theatre company's, In Development will feature rehearsed readings, open rehearsals and semi-staged performances.

Brokentalkers
The Blue Boy

Brokentalkers latest project deals with the experiences of men and women who were incarcerated as children in catholic residential care institutions. Using recorded interviews, live performance, music and film, The Blue Boy attempts to give fresh theatrical voice to recently revealed stories of childhood abuse in Ireland.
Brokentalkers are part of PROJECT CATALYST, an initiative of Project Arts Centre.

The Next Stage  Â
Presented in association with Theatre Forum.
Described by past participants as "career changing," a "rare amount of inspiration" and "a once in a lifetime opportunity," The Next Stage is the artist development strand of the Festival. The challenging programme, spanning all 18 days of the festival, is an intense combination of exposure to the highest quality theatre and active participation. In addition to a nearly exhaustive schedule of performances, there is a series of talks and workshops led by some of the world's leading theatre makers. Past workshop leaders/speakers include Stephen Rea, Lloyd Newson, Declan Donnellan, Anne Bogart and Tim Crouch. Up to sixteen Irish theatre practitioners from all disciplines will be chosen to participate in this intimate programme. Participation is by application only.

The Gate Theatre, in association with Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival, presents an exciting season of plays by three towering figures of twentieth century theatre – Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter and David Mamet. The festival will showcase Endgame, Watt, Celebration and Boston Marriage.

Central to the season will be a series of weekend readings which will feature excerpts from other works by the three playwrights. Yellow
A woman dressed in a large yellow dress, continuously washes her enormous skirt in a bucket of soap water over 4 hours, to the intermittent strains of a piano composition by Franz Schubert. Originally authored by the performance artist Amanda Cogan, Yellow, which examines the frail and yet indomitable nature of human spirit, will be interpreted individually by 6 women over consecutive days.
Featuring: Olwen Fouéré, Deirdre Roycroft, Victoria McCormack, Ann Marie Healy, Anna Berndtson and Amanda Coogan.
This powerful live performance exhibition draws all the power of the past right into the visceral present in a collective experience of endurance on the border between performance art and theatre.

Theatre Censorship Conference
'Art made tongue-tied by authority': Theatre Censorship around the World.
This international conference brings together playwrights, directors and academics to discuss theatre censorship in a global context, from the restrictions imposed by authoritarian regimes in twentieth-century Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, to the challenges to freedom of expression still present in democratic societies today.

Irish Theatre Institute International Theatre Exchange
Since its inception in 1994, Irish Theatre Institute has led the way in international networking and promotion for Irish theatre companies and artists. This year ITI will present its 17th annual International Theatre Exchange - a three day gathering of influential international presenters and producers who will meet with Irish companies and artists that have work 'ready for export' or, who are working on projects with an attractive international dimension. Comprising one-to-one meetings, pitching sessions, panel discussions, networking events, showcase and in-development performances, this event is a must for all Irish producers of professional theatre who have an eye to international platforms. In the past two years alone, as a result of this event, companies have been invited to perform in Cape Town, New York, Tampere, London, Wiesbaden, Johannesburg, Toronto, Edinburgh, Paris and Portland - can you afford to miss it?
