The world renowned director Ivo van Hove makes his long-awaited Festival debut with Holland’s largest repertory company Toneelgroep Amsterdam, in this inspired and shattering vision of Jean Cocteau’s seminal text, La Voix Humaine.
This celebrated story of abandonment, grief and heartbreak centres on a desperate woman’s last phone call to an ex-lover. In Van Hove’s elegant production, the audience’s most voyeuristic impulses are skilfully manipulated to provide a fascinating insight into the chaotic unravelling of a passionate affair.
Central to the success of this stark, contemporary production is a tour-de-force performance by one of the Netherlands' most celebrated stage actresses, Halina Reijn, which earned her the Best Actress award at the Kontakt International Theatre Festival in Poland.
Performed in Dutch with English surtitles.
