“When I was a boy all I ever wanted was to fight a duel like Pushkin. And then to lie on a couch with my fatal wound eating cloudberries.”
The Abbey Theatre presents a brand new play in which the life and death of the elusive Chekhov is examined through the eyes of one of Ireland’s leading playwrights, Marina Carr, in this energetic production directed by Wayne Jordan.
In 16 POSSIBLE GLIMPSES, a series of dialogues and domestic scenes flash through the life of Chekhov, the master story teller, master playwright, doctor, lover, brother, son.
Glimpse; oceans of champagne, coffins, snow, beautiful gardens, a black monk travelling through time, trees, vodka, women, women, women and a life in which eternity is the only thing worth talking about.
Featuring the best of Irish theatre talent, this dynamic new play sees a collision of visuals, words and music in a distinct and poetic re-imagining of the life of a brilliant man.
TALKING THEATRE Marina Carr in conversation with Melissa Sihra. Sept 30, 6pm. Abbey Theatre. Advance booking essential.
