The National Theatre of Scotland's
Scotland
Following its sell-out Edinburgh run, performances around the globe and unanimous critical acclaim, the most talked about international show of the past two years arrives in Dublin before returning to New York for an extended run.
Based on interviews with former soldiers who served in Iraq, this taut and uncompromising piece of theatre examines what it means to be part of the legendary Black Watch Regiment, what it means to be part of the war on terror, and what it means to make the long journey home.
Hailed as a cultural landmark of the 21st century, Black Watch has won, among numerous other awards, four Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland and the South Bank Show Award for Theatre. This highly physical performance incorporates pipe music, traditional songs and tight action sequences punctuated by stunning visual imagery.
For Dublin audiences, a specially built stage will transform the RDS into an intimate performance space, transporting the audience from Scottish homeland to the intense heat of the Iraqi desert. Contains strong language, loud explosions and strobe lighting.
“Few will come away untouched by this thrilling, raw, challenging and masterful piece of work.” The Times
We Feel...
Black Watch is an exuberant celebration of the explosive power of live theatre and is quite simply the must-see of the Festival!
