She She Pop
Germany
A programme of independent German theatre to mark the 50th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut in Ireland
When Shakespeare’s King Lear retires and divides his kingdom between his three daughters, he experiences a powerful disappointment: None of his daughters seem to love him adequately in return.
Drawing from Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, this tender yet brutally honest production, dares to show the painful realities of aging and parenthood that affect us all but are seldom spoken. Standing on stage with their real-life fathers, performers expose their personal grievances without mercy: Legal succession, hereditary diseases, home care plans, gas receipts, and an overbearing sense of guilt – all subject to public negotiation and scrutiny.
Funny and sad, brave and raw, this frank and razor-sharp show is creating waves around Europe after winning the Wild Card award at Theaterfestival Favoriten and being chosen as one of the top ten German shows of 2010 at the Berliner Theatertreffen.
A co-production with Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg and FFT Düsseldorf.
Performed in German with English surtitles.
