Ciaran O'Melia
Ciarán O’Melia studied at the Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College Dublin, and is now a freelance designer [stage, lighting & costume] & theatre practitioner based in Dublin. In 2008 he took part in The Next Stage, a structured artist development initiative run by Theatre Forum as part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival. At last year’s Festival he designed THISISPOPBABY and Project Arts Centre's A Woman in Progress by Panti; Brokentalkers' Silver Stars by Seán Millar and Bands Who Shout: a work in progress as part of Project Brand New: The Next Stage [all @ Project Arts Centre]. Silver Stars transferred to New York's Public Theater for the prestigious Under the Radar Festival and toured to the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris and the Tampere Theatre Festival in Finland. Other recent designs include: THEATREclub Stole Your Clock Radio What The Fuck You Gonna Do About It?; The Company’s Who Is Fergus Kilpatrick?; Una Santa Oscura by Ian Wilson; Victor & Gord by Una McKevitt [All @ Project Arts Centre 2010]; Loose Canon’s Piggy Back Project – Anatomy of a Seagull [nominated Best Production Irish Times Theatre Awards 2009] and Jesus Has My Mom In There and Has Beat Her Up Real Bad [ABSOLUT Fringe 2009]. théâtre re[ræ]’s Your Letter, At Last! [ABSOLUT Fringe 2009]; Calipo’s All Over Town by Philip McMahon [Queer Notions 2009 @ Project Arts Centre]; Loose Canon’s Phaedra's Love [Winner Best Production Irish Times Theatre Awards 2008]. The summer has seen Ciaran’s designs appear at Festivals around the country with THEATREclub Stole Your Clock Radio What The Fuck You Gonna Do About It? @ Cork Midsummer Festival; GYT’s Citizenship by Mark Ravenhill @ Galway Arts Festival; Victor & Gord and Group Therapy for One @ Kilkenny Arts Festival. At this year’s ABSOLUT Fringe he will be working with Spirit of the Fringe 2009 winners The Company on As you are now so once were we and with THEATREclub on Shane Byrne Left His Sleeping Bag in the Car Again.
