Dublin Theatre Festial

HISTORY OF THE FESTIVAL

"Dublin is a glorious rarity among theatre festivals... It soars."
- Susannah Clapp, The Observer UK

Established in 1957, Dublin Theatre Festival is an annual event that brings together artists, theatre-makers and audiences from around the world over 18 days, from the last Thursday in September.  At the heart of the festival is the city of Dublin – its stories, inhabitants and visitors – and a commitment to contributing to the vibrant social and cultural life of our capital.

We present work in venues and locations across the city. Our programme incorporates theatre, music, dance and family events and includes artist talks, public discussions and artist development programmes. We seek to provide a platform for world-class performance by celebrated companies and artists, presenting classic drama alongside work by exciting, emerging theatre-makers from Ireland and abroad.

We look forward to announcing our programme for 2013 later this year. Keep an eye on our website for details or sign up to receive our e-newsletter and be among the first to receive our latest news.
